SkinMedica Hydrating Complex Review

SkinMedica Hydrating Complex Reviews

What does the SkinMedica Hydrating Complex do?

This product contains both high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid with a smattering of other ingredients, all focused on hydration. As such, this serum almost entirely focuses on hydrating your skin by giving your skin a super boost in hydration and enhancing the effects of your current moisturizer.

The SkinMedica Hydrating Complex stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid by your own skin, protects your skin against loss of hyaluronic acid and helps to maintain the firmness and elasticity of your skin.

As a result, your skin looks younger and fresher with a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

Who should use the SkinMedica Complex?

This complex is suitable for all skin types, in particular for those with very dry, aged or rough textured skin.

As our skin ages it loses its ability to create collagen and so for people whose face appears tired and drawn with a lack of collagen, the addition of this complex to their daily routine will plump-up their skin and give them a brighter, firmer and more invigorated appearance.

How to use this Hydrating Complex

Cleanse your face and neck areas as usual and pat dry. Invert the pump dispenser and tap the top of the dispenser lightly against the palm of your hand a few times.

Then apply a single pump to your face and neck areas before applying your moisturizer and makeup, if desired. You can use this complex twice a day, morning and night.

SkinMedica Hydrating Complex Ingredients - SkinMedica Reviews

This complex contains the following ingredients: high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol and Xylitol, Wakame Kelp extract, Betaine and vitamin B5 provitamin B complex.

Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid

A lack of moisture in our skin is one of the most notable factors associated with an aged appearance, so it is great to know that the key ingredient involved in moisturizing our skin is hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid has the unique ability to absorb more than 1000 times its weight in water and helps to give our skin a super boost in hydration. Naturally occurring in our bodies, the production of hyaluronic acid diminishes with age, leaving our skin looking dry, tired and aged.

The half-life of hyaluronic acid in the skin is less than a day, so if it is not continually replenished our skin dries and becomes rougher in appearance. Skin hydration critically depends on the amount of hyaluronic acid in the dermis and the epidermis and as we age, hyaluronic acid disappears faster from the epidermis than the dermis.

The disappearance of hyaluronic acid from our epidermis leads to a loss of moisture in our skin and the reduction of hyaluronic acid in our dermis leads to a loss of collagen. These result in an aged appearance to our skin – dryness, sagging and loss of elasticity.

Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid penetrates the skin more deeply into the dermal layers, reaching the structural layers of the skin and helping to decrease lines and wrinkles. High molecular weight hyaluronic acid however, cannot penetrate the skin as deeply, so it only effects the epidermal layer. This is enough however, because a super boost of hyaluronic acid to your epidermis means that your skin appears more hydrated and supple.

Unless stated, most hyaluronic acid serums only have high molecular eight hyaluronic acid, which does not penetrate so far into your skin as serums with low molecular weight hyaluronic acid.

Benefits of Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol and Xylitol

This is a complex of three different naturally occurring sugars found in wheat and wood cellulose. This sugar mix dramatically increases the ability of our skin to retain moisture in the epidermis and it also stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid in our skin.

Benefits of Wakame Kelp extract

An edible seaweed, Wakame kelp has been a staple in Japanese diets for centuries. The beautiful clear skin of many Japanese women has been linked to the fabulous health giving properties of this seaweed. Wakame contains vitamins A, C, E and K, folate and riboflavin, as well as sodium, iron, potassium, calcium, antioxidants and amino acids.

Wakame seaweed also contains a compound called sulfated pilyfucose that helps to prevent the breakdown of hyaluronic acid in your skin. This prolongs the effects of hyaluronic acid and helps to keep your skin hydrated and supple for longer.

Benefits of Betaine

Naturally occurring in the body, but diminishing with age, betaine helps to control the balance of water in our skin. The moisture content of our skin is increased the dry, tired and aged appearance is revitalized.

Benefits of Vitamin B5 provitamin B complex

Provitamin B5 is a powerful humectant, meaning that it has a strong ability to attract and absorb water. This means that it reduces the amount of moisture lost by our skin, increasing our skin’s hydration and giving our s skin a more moisturized and younger appearance.
